Common Name(s):Bishop’s Cap Cactus, Bishop’s Hat Cactus, Mitre Cactus
Origin: Native to the highlands of northeastern and central Mexico.
Description:
A celestial treasure for the discerning collector, the variegated Bishop’s Cap Cactus is a spineless, slow-growing member of the cactus family. As a seedling, it forms a perfectly symmetrical, star-like globe, which gives the genus its name Astrophytum, meaning “star plant”. This particular form captivates with a soft, faint hued yellow variegation that mottles the striking green epidermis. This unique characteristic makes each plant completely one-of-a-kind. Over time, the globular body elongates into a sculptural, cylindrical form, eventually reaching up to 100 cm tall. When mature, the plant rewards its caretaker with large, fragrant, sunny yellow flowers, which appear during the summer months.
